KT Corps Cadet Highlight: Anthony Vannarath-Nashville South

March 16, 2015

Anthony Vannarath started attending the Salvation Army 4 years ago and that is where he first met and established his relationship with Jesus Christ and his life has been forever changed as a result. As Anthony grew in his faith he became increasingly convicted of some of his life choices and his tendency to use his larger than life personality and sense of humor to deflect any serious consideration of a deepening relationship with God. One evening, he could not escape the Holy Spirit’s conviction any longer and he asked his Youth Leader what he had to do to be saved. From that moment on, he made his relationship with the Lord his number one priority in life.

Anthony will tell you that before attending the Corps, he considered himself to be an atheist. He comes from a buddist family which left him feeling very confused about faith and where he was headed in life. Now he is openly a follower of Christ, and the only Christian in his home, which can make things very difficult for him since his family doesn’t understand his choices and Christianity for that matter.

Anthony is like a ball of energy. Whatever he does, he puts all his heart into it. He’s a good student who studies hard and plays hard. He keeps himself active by joining his high school basketball team and plays basketball at church (rain or shine), he’s a part of our corps dance team, plays guitar for our Sunday worship team, and assist with Jr. Soldier class.

He’s attentive during Sunday School and Bible study time. He’s always the first to raise his hand to pray before and after a meeting. His parents aren’t followers of Christ and have tried to influence his faith, but Anthony has remained faithful to his Lord Jesus Christ. He’s a big guy with a big heart who loves his friends and respects his corps officers along with the other local leaders. He’s always a gentleman and is the life of the party. He’s a young man who truly loves Jesus and it shows through his words and deeds.

VBSAnthony will share openly that life for him has not been 100% easy since he accepted Jesus into his life. There have been a lot of highs and lows for him but one thing this 15 year old remembers is that God is always there for him…anything that he needs guidance on? He seeks God for His infinite wisdom. Anthony proclaims that all he wants to do is spread the gospel and glorify God with the many gifts and talents God has blessed him with. He knows that though he is still young, God has so much in store for him in his future and he cannot wait to see what that is.

Anthony’s scripture that he holds tight to is taken from Jeremiah 29:11

‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you. Plans to give you HOPE and a FUTURE.’
